The VARGUS 53574 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for external UN thread cutting at 12 threads per inch (TPI). It carries the 3JER insert style designation and features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, delivering hardness and heat resistance suited for demanding threading operations. The 3/8-inch inscribed circle (IC) size and 60-degree included angle conform to standard UN thread geometry. The SCB chipbreaker promotes consistent chip evacuation during threading passes. This insert is intended for use by machinists and CNC lathe operators in production or job-shop environments.
The VARGUS 53574 is used for right-hand external UN threading on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. With a universal primary workpiece material designation, it is rated for use across a broad range of materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, heat-resistant alloys, and aluminum. Its standard series classification makes it a direct-fit replacement for common threading insert holders accepting the 3ER insert style. Typical applications include threading fastener components, fittings, and shaft ends in precision machining environments.
Designed as a laydown threading insert in the 3ER style for use in standard threading insert toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch IC insert. Compatible with right-hand external UN threading applications at 12 TPI across universal workpiece material categories.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all motion is locked out before seating or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamping hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the insert without over-tightening. Verify thread pitch and insert orientation against the job setup sheet before resuming cutting operations.
