The VARGUS 53565 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for external thread-cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Coated with TiAlN via a PVD process, it handles a broad range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloys. The insert conforms to a partial profile 60-degree thread standard, covers a thread range of 48 to 8 TPI with a corresponding pitch range of 0.50 to 3.00 mm, and carries a 3/8-inch (9.53 mm) inscribed circle with a thickness of 3.60 mm. It is intended for use by machinists and toolroom professionals running production or job-shop threading operations.
This insert is suited for right-hand external threading applications across a wide variety of material types. The universal primary workpiece material rating spans ISO material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S, making it a versatile option for shops that thread carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and superalloys without switching insert grades. It is configured in the 3JER insert style with the SCB chipbreaker geometry, which is appropriate for standard-series threading cycles at moderate feed and depth-of-cut parameters.
Designed as a replacement threading insert in the 3JER insert style, compatible with toolholders and boring bars engineered to accept the 3JER laydown insert form factor with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle seating geometry.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Before seating the insert, power down and lock out the machine per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Ensure the insert pocket and clamping screw are clean and free of chips before torquing. Do not exceed the toolholder manufacturer's recommended clamping torque, and inspect the seating surface for wear before each insert change.
