The VARGUS 52851 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for cutting internal UN threads on CNC lathes and threading machines. Carrying the VKX grade designation and a PVD-applied TiN coating, this insert delivers consistent thread form on a wide range of workpiece materials. It produces a 60-degree included angle at 8 threads per inch (TPI), making it suited for standard UN fastener thread profiles. With an inscribed circle of 3/8 inch and a thickness of 3.6 millimeters, the 3IR insert style seats securely in compatible right-hand internal toolholders. Machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments install this insert as a direct replacement consumable.
This insert is intended for right-hand internal UN threading operations where a standard 3IR laydown insert style is required. The universal primary workpiece material rating covers a broad spectrum of materials, including carbon steels, stainless steels, cast irons, aluminum alloys, heat-resistant superalloys, and non-ferrous metals as indicated by material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. It is well suited to production threading of nuts, threaded bores, and internally threaded components where an 8 TPI UN profile is specified per ANSI B1.1:74.
Designed as a direct replacement laydown threading insert for right-hand internal 3IR toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert. Compatible with tooling systems dimensioned to the 3IR laydown insert standard. Verify holder specification before ordering.
This insert is installed and replaced by CNC machinists or tool-crib technicians following standard lathe lockout and toolholder procedures. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or removing any insert. Use the appropriate torx or clamp screw driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer and do not overtighten the clamping screw. Inspect the insert seat and clamping pocket for chips or debris before installing a new insert to ensure proper seating and thread accuracy.
