The VARGUS 52779 is a laydown threading insert designed for cutting internal Stub Acme threads on CNC lathes and threading equipment. Built from solid carbide with a TiAlN (titanium aluminum nitride) coating, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability during threading operations. It is a right-hand insert with a 3IR style profile, rated at 6 threads per inch (TPI) and sized for a 3/8 inch inscribed circle. The VTX manufacturer grade designation indicates a performance-level carbide substrate suited for precision threading work. Machinists and CNC operators use this insert for internal threading passes where Stub Acme thread profiles are required.
This insert is used in internal threading operations on CNC lathes and turning centers where Stub Acme thread forms are called out on the workpiece. Stub Acme threads are common in power transmission components, linear actuators, lead screws, and industrial machinery where a shallower thread depth is preferred over a full Acme profile. The 3IR insert style is a laydown format, compatible with toolholders designed for that profile geometry. Right-hand cutting orientation suits standard thread direction applications. This insert is suited for production and job shop environments handling ferrous and non-ferrous materials where TiAlN coatings provide extended tool life.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement threading insert for toolholders accepting 3IR-style laydown inserts with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle and Stub Acme thread profile geometry.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured before seating or replacing the insert. Verify the toolholder pocket is clean and free of chips or debris before clamping the insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque specifications and confirm thread form alignment with a test pass before production runs.
