The VARGUS 52593 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for cutting internal UN threads on a lathe or turning center. It carries the 3IR insert style designation with 18 threads per inch (TPI) and a 60-degree included angle, matching standard unified thread form geometry. The VKX grade substrate is finished with a PVD-applied TiN coating, which provides wear resistance across a wide range of workpiece materials. At 3.60 mm thick with a 9.53 mm (3/8 inch) inscribed circle, this insert seats into standard 3IR toolholders. Right-hand cutting orientation is standard. Installation and changeover are performed by machinists and CNC lathe operators in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for internal threading operations on a broad spectrum of materials, including steels, stainless steels, cast irons, non-ferrous alloys, and heat-resistant superalloys, reflected by its universal primary workpiece material classification with ISO material group codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. It fits standard 3IR boring bar and threading toolholders used in both manual and CNC turning applications. The single-tooth profile per side ensures controlled thread form engagement, making it appropriate for finish threading passes in tight-tolerance applications.
Designed for use in standard 3IR internal threading toolholders and boring bars accepting laydown-style threading inserts. Compatible with UN thread form per ANSI B1.1:74 at 18 TPI.
Insert changeover and toolholder setup should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine fully stopped and in a locked-out state per applicable machine safety procedures. Ensure the seating pocket and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Verify toolholder projection and boring bar rigidity before threading passes to prevent chatter and insert breakage. Cutting parameters should be set per the toolholder manufacturer and VARGUS grade recommendations for the specific workpiece material group.
