The VARGUS 52499 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for internal UN thread cutting at 14 threads per inch (TPI). Built in the 3IR insert style with a 3/8-inch (9.53 mm) inscribed circle and a thickness of 3.60 mm, this insert carries a PVD-applied TiAlN coating that extends cutting life across a wide range of workpiece materials. The 60-degree included angle conforms to standard UN thread geometry per ANSI B1.1:74. Right-hand cutting orientation and a single tooth per side make it well suited for precise, controlled threading passes on internal features. Machinists and CNC lathe operators working in job shops or production environments will find this insert a direct fit for standard UN threading toolholders.
This insert is intended for internal UN threading applications in right-hand orientation. The VTX grade with TiAlN finish supports use on a broad spectrum of workpiece materials, classified under material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering steels, stainless, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, high-temperature alloys, and hardened materials. It is suited for both light production and maintenance machining where consistent UN thread form accuracy is required. Typical install scenarios include CNC turning centers and manual lathes equipped with compatible 3IR-style boring bar or threading toolholders.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement threading insert for 3IR-style internal threading toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle laydown insert. Compatible with right-hand internal UN threading applications requiring 14 TPI and a 60-degree thread form angle.
This insert is installed and replaced by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Ensure the toolholder pocket and clamping screw are clean and free of chips before installing to maintain proper insert seating and thread form accuracy. Refer to the toolholder manufacturer specifications for correct torque on the clamping screw.
