The VARGUS 52381 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for right-hand internal American Buttress thread cutting at 12 threads per inch (TPI). Finished with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, this insert delivers thermal and wear resistance across a broad range of workpiece materials. It carries a 3IR insert style designation, a 9.53 mm inscribed circle (3/8 inch), and a thickness of 3.60 mm. The 45-degree included angle is matched to American Buttress thread geometry per ANSI B1.9.1973. Manufactured to the VTX grade standard and produced under ISO 9001:2008 quality controls, this insert is installed by machinists and toolroom specialists running CNC or manual lathes.
This insert is suited for internal buttress thread applications across universal workpiece material classes, including ferrous, non-ferrous, and superalloy materials corresponding to material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. It fits standard 3IR insert pockets and is appropriate for production threading operations where consistent thread form and tool life are priorities. The laydown seating geometry ensures repeatable positioning in compatible toolholders. Typical applications include power-transmission components, hydraulic cylinder rods, and structural fastener bores that require buttress thread profiles.
Designed for use in standard 3IR insert-style internal threading toolholders. Compatible with universal workpiece material classes H, K, M, N, P, and S. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and insert seating style before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing or seating any insert. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamping screw to seat the insert - do not overtighten by hand. Inspect the insert pocket for wear or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and thread-form accuracy.
