The VARGUS 52336 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for internal Whitworth thread cutting on CNC lathes and threading machines. It features a 3IR insert style with an 11 TPI thread pitch and a 55-degree included angle, making it purpose-built for right-hand internal Whitworth thread profiles. The PVD-applied TiN coating improves surface hardness and wear resistance during high-volume threading operations. With an inscribed circle of 9.53 mm (3/8 inches) and a thickness of 3.6 mm, this insert fits standard 3IR toolholders used in production turning environments. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals specify this insert for precision thread generation across a broad range of workpiece materials.
This insert is suited for threading operations on ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces, including steel, stainless, cast iron, aluminum, titanium, and high-temperature alloys, as indicated by its universal primary workpiece material classification covering material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. It is typically installed in production machine shops, job shops, and maintenance turning applications where consistent Whitworth thread profiles are required. The 3IR laydown geometry provides rigid seating in compatible toolholders, reducing chatter and maintaining thread accuracy across multi-part runs.
Designed for use in standard 3IR laydown threading toolholders. Compatible with workpiece materials classified under universal grades H, K, M, N, P, and S. Conforms to thread standards B.S.84:1956, DIN 259, and ISO228/1:1982.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer's seating and clamping specifications. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing threading inserts. Use the correct torx or clamp screw driver to secure the insert without overtightening, which can fracture the carbide substrate. Verify thread pitch and hand orientation against the job drawing before beginning the threading pass.
