The VARGUS 51904 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for right-hand external Stub Acme thread cutting at 8 threads per inch (TPI). Manufactured in the 3ER insert style, it features a 29-degree included angle, a 3/8-inch (9.53 mm) inscribed circle, and a thickness of 3.60 mm. The insert carries a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, which extends tool life across a broad range of workpiece materials. This insert is intended for use on CNC lathes and screw machines operated by machinists and tool-and-die professionals requiring precise Acme thread geometry.
The 51904 is suited for external threading operations on Stub Acme profiles per ANSI B1.8:1988 standards. Its universal material compatibility code covers steel, stainless, cast iron, non-ferrous, aluminum, and high-temperature alloys, making it a versatile choice for job shops and production environments that run varied material types. The single-tooth-per-side geometry ensures controlled chip formation and consistent thread form on each pass.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement threading insert compatible with toolholders accepting the 3ER insert style for external threading applications.
This insert is installed by machinists on CNC lathe or screw machine toolholders rated for the 3ER seating style. Power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Use proper insert clamps and torque the clamp screw to toolholder manufacturer specifications. Verify thread pitch and included angle against the job drawing before commencing the threading cycle.
