The VARGUS 51745 is a laydown threading insert designed for right-hand external UN thread cutting at 32 threads per inch. Built from solid carbide with a multilayer PVD coating in the VM7 grade, this insert delivers consistent thread form geometry across a wide range of workpiece materials. The 3ER insert style features a 3/8 inch inscribed circle and a 60-degree included angle, making it compatible with standard 3ER toolholders. Licensed HVAC and plumbing techs running CNC lathes or manual threading equipment will recognize this as a production-grade consumable engineered for accuracy and tool life in high-volume threading operations.
This insert is suited for external UN thread production on CNC turning centers and manual lathes. The 32 TPI specification covers common fastener and fitting thread pitches used in general machining, aerospace, and fluid-system component manufacturing. The universal primary workpiece material rating means this insert performs across a broad material spectrum including steel, stainless, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloys. It is used in job shops and production facilities where consistent thread quality and repeatable insert performance are required.
Designed for use with standard 3ER-style external threading toolholders. Compatible with workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering a broad range of metals including carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, and superalloys.
This insert is installed by a machinist or tooling technician into a compatible 3ER external threading toolholder. Always power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully and verify clamping torque per the toolholder manufacturer specification before resuming cutting operations. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before each installation to maintain thread form accuracy.
