The VARGUS 51451 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for external UN thread cutting at 16 threads per inch. It carries the VTX manufacturer grade and features a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, which provides thermal resistance and extended tool life across a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert follows a 3ER style with a 60-degree included angle, a 3/8-inch (9.53 mm) inscribed circle, and a thickness of approximately 0.142 inches (3.60 mm). It is intended for right-hand external threading operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Machinists and toolroom operators working to ANSI B1.1:74 thread standards will find this insert a direct fit for standard UN thread form applications.
The VARGUS 51451 is suited for general-purpose external threading on a broad range of materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloys, as indicated by its universal primary workpiece material rating spanning material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. It is commonly used in production turning environments where consistent thread form accuracy and insert interchangeability are required. This insert is sold individually and is designed for use in compatible 3ER-style laydown threading toolholders.
Designed for use in 3ER-style laydown threading toolholders configured for external right-hand UN thread cutting. Conforms to ANSI B1.1:74 and is produced under ISO 9001:2008 quality standards.
This insert is installed and replaced by a machinist or toolroom technician following standard CNC turning safety procedures. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or removing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or clamping screw driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer and ensure the insert seats fully and evenly in the pocket before resuming cuts. Do not exceed the feed rate or depth-of-cut parameters established for the toolholder and workpiece material combination.
