The VARGUS 51352 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for cutting external NPT threads on a lathe or CNC turning center. Built to the 3ER insert style with a VTX micrograin carbide grade and a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, this insert delivers consistent thread form and extended tool life across a broad range of workpiece materials. It cuts at 14 threads per inch and is sized with a 0.375-inch (3/8-inch) inscribed circle and a thickness of 3.6 millimeters. The 60-degree included angle matches the NPT thread standard. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in compatible 3ER toolholders for precision pipe thread production.
This insert is suited for external NPT threading applications in job shops, production machining, and maintenance environments. The universal material compatibility rating covers a wide range of metals including carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and high-temperature alloys, making it a practical single-insert solution for shops that thread multiple material types. It is particularly well suited for producing NPT pipe threads on fittings, nipples, and threaded pipe ends where a reliable, repeatable thread form is required.
Designed for use in 3ER-style laydown threading toolholders compatible with the 3ER insert seat geometry. Consult your toolholder documentation to confirm insert seat size and clamping compatibility before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the insert clamp to the manufacturer-specified seating procedure without over-torquing the clamping screw. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Verify thread form with a calibrated NPT go/no-go gauge after the first pass.
