The VARGUS 51144 is a laydown-style threading insert designed for external UN thread cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built from solid carbide with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, this insert operates in the 3ER insert style with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and cuts at 10 threads per inch. The 60-degree included angle matches the unified national thread form, and the right-hand orientation suits standard external thread turning operations. It carries the VTX manufacturer grade and is rated for universal workpiece material compatibility, making it suitable across a broad range of metals and alloys encountered in production turning environments.
This insert is intended for right-hand external threading applications on machine lathes in job shop, production, and manufacturing settings. It is compatible with materials coded H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, steels, and heat-resistant superalloys. The 10 TPI specification places it squarely in coarse-thread UN applications. Machinists and CNC operators performing external thread turning on round stock will find this insert suitable for a standard range of production threading passes.
Designed for use in laydown threading toolholders accepting the 3ER insert style. Compatible with workpiece material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S as defined by the manufacturer. Conforms to ANSI B1.1:74 thread standards.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the lathe or turning center is fully stopped and in a safe state before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and clamping screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the insert properly - do not overtighten by hand. Verify thread pitch and insert orientation against the job setup sheet before starting a threading pass.
