The VARGUS 50993 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for external thread cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the 3ER insert style in the 3ERG60 VTX series, it cuts a partial profile 60-degree thread form and covers a thread range of 14 to 8 TPI, corresponding to a 1.75 to 3.00 mm pitch range. The TiAlN PVD coating provides thermal resistance and extended tool life across a broad range of workpiece materials. This is a single-tooth insert suited for right-hand external threading operations. Machinists and CNC operators in precision machining shops are the primary users.
This insert is used for right-hand external threading on a wide range of workpiece materials, including steels, stainless steels, cast irons, non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys. The universal material compatibility rating covers ISO material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S, making the 50993 a versatile choice for job shops running mixed materials. It is suited to both production turning and maintenance machining where a 60-degree partial profile thread form is required. The insert seats in standard 3ER-style toolholders used on manual and CNC lathes.
Designed for use in standard 3ER-style laydown threading toolholders. The insert style code 3ER and inscribed circle of 3/8 inch (9.53 mm) determine toolholder fit. Confirm toolholder pocket geometry and insert seating style before installation.
Threading inserts are installed by qualified machinists or CNC operators. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and clamp screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer - do not overtighten, as solid carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under excessive clamping force. Verify insert seating and orientation before running the first cut, and confirm thread pitch and form with a thread gauge before accepting the workpiece.
