The VARGUS 50400 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for internal UN thread cutting on CNC lathes and thread-turning centers. Configured in a 2IR style with a 16 threads-per-inch pitch and a 60-degree included angle, this insert produces right-hand internal UN-form threads to ANSI B1.1:74 specification. The insert is PVD-coated with TiN for wear resistance across a wide range of workpiece materials. With a 6.35 mm (1/4 inch) inscribed circle and a thickness of 3.17 mm, the 50400 seats reliably in compatible laydown threading toolholders and maintains precise thread geometry across production runs.
The VARGUS 50400 is suited for internal threading operations in general machining environments where UN thread forms are required. Its universal material grade designation covers steel, stainless, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloys, making it a practical choice for shops running mixed-material workloads. The insert is appropriate for use in production turning, job-shop threading, and maintenance-repair machining where consistent 16 TPI UN internal thread quality is critical. Sold individually per package with a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
Designed as a laydown-style threading insert for use in toolholders that accept 2IR insert geometry with a 1/4-inch (6.35 mm) inscribed circle; verify toolholder compatibility before ordering.
Threading inserts should be installed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer's toolholder torque and seating procedures. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is clear before changing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for damage or debris before seating a new insert. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine guarding requirements during changeover.
