The VARGUS 50123 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for internal thread cutting operations. It carries a TiN coating applied via PVD process, which improves surface hardness and wear resistance during threading. The insert follows the SAGE thread standard with a 2.00mm pitch and is configured for right-hand internal threading. With a 9.53mm inscribed circle (equivalent to 3/8 inch) and a thickness of 3.60mm, the 50123 fits standard laydown insert toolholders in the 3IR style. Machinists and CNC lathe operators install this insert in production threading applications where consistent thread form and tool life matter.
This insert is suited for use on CNC lathes and manual turning centers performing internal threading passes. The SAGE thread standard and 2.00mm pitch make it applicable across a broad range of metric threaded bore work. The primary workpiece material compatibility spans multiple material groups, including carbon and alloy steels, stainless steels, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, aluminum alloys, and high-temperature alloys, corresponding to material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. It is appropriate for both production shop environments and general-purpose threading setups.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for 3IR-style internal threading toolholders accepting a 9.53mm inscribed circle laydown insert. Specific toolholder compatibility should be verified against the holder manufacturer's insert specification chart.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. The machine spindle must be brought to a full stop and locked out before seating or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the insert clamp screw to the correct seating torque per the holder documentation. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and thread-form accuracy.
