The VARGUS 50048 is a carbide thread mill insert designed for internal threading operations using a partial profile 60-degree thread form. Manufactured from micrograin carbide with a PVD-applied TiCN coating, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability when cutting superalloy and titanium workpiece materials. It carries insert style designation 3UI with a size code of 3 and manufacturer grade VTX. The 9.53 mm inscribed circle and 4 to 6 mm pitch range (6 to 4 TPI) make it suited to precision threading tasks where tool life and surface finish consistency are critical. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling technicians are the primary installers of this consumable.
This insert is intended for internal thread milling on materials classified under workpiece material code N, primarily superalloys and titanium. It is used in CNC machining centers equipped with thread mill toolholders that accept 3UI-style inserts. Typical applications include aerospace, medical device, and high-performance industrial component manufacturing where titanium and nickel-based superalloy threads are required. The partial profile 60-degree standard allows the insert to produce threads across a range of pitches within its rated range without a dedicated full-profile insert for each pitch.
Designed for use in thread mill toolholders accepting 3UI-style inserts. Compatible with internal thread milling applications on superalloy and titanium workpieces in the 4 to 6 mm pitch (6 to 4 TPI) range. Verify toolholder seat geometry and clamping torque requirements against the toolholder manufacturer specifications before installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified CNC machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the correct insert clamp screw and torque driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer. Inspect the toolholder seat for chips or debris before seating the insert to avoid seating errors that can damage the insert or affect thread accuracy.
