The VARGUS 029-00197 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for internal thread cutting operations. Manufactured in the Mini L series under the 5LKIR insert style, this insert carries a TiN coating applied via PVD process, providing wear resistance across a broad range of workpiece materials. It cuts a partial profile 60-degree thread form, covering 48 to 16 TPI and a metric pitch range of 0.50 to 1.50 mm. The 5 mm inscribed circle and 2.40 mm thickness place this insert in the compact end of the threading tooling range, suited to smaller-bore internal threading applications. Licensed CNC machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary installers.
This insert is intended for right-hand internal threading on CNC lathes and turning centers. The universal primary workpiece material designation covers a wide range of material groups including steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, heat-resistant superalloys, and aluminum alloys, corresponding to material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. The partial profile 60-degree thread standard makes it applicable across unified and metric thread families without requiring a dedicated full-profile insert for each pitch. It is well suited to production threading in tight-bore situations where a compact insert geometry is required.
Designed for use in toolholders and boring bars accepting the 5LKIR laydown insert style with a 5 mm inscribed circle and 2.40 mm thickness. Consult the VARGUS Mini L series toolholder documentation to confirm pocket and clamping compatibility before installation.
Installation and indexing of threading inserts should be performed by qualified machinists with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Use the correct torque wrench and insert screw as specified by the toolholder manufacturer - do not overtighten or substitute fasteners. Verify that the insert is fully seated in the pocket with no rocking before resuming operation. Follow shop safety procedures and applicable machine tool manufacturer guidelines when changing inserts on live tooling or CNC turning equipment.
