The VARGUS 021-07091 is a laydown-style solid carbide threading insert designed for external UN thread profiles at 18 threads per inch. It carries the VRX grade designation and an AlTiN coating applied via PVD process, which extends tool life across a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert features a 60-degree included angle, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a nominal thickness of 3.6 mm (0.1417 inches). It is a right-hand insert for use in standard external threading operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Machinists and toolroom professionals working to ANSI B1.1 thread standards will find this insert well suited to production and job-shop threading applications.
This insert is used for cutting external UN thread forms in a laydown seating configuration. The VRX grade with AlTiN coating supports machining of a broad range of materials including steels, stainless steels, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, high-temp alloys, and titanium, as reflected by the primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. It is intended for use in standard-series 3ER insert toolholders on CNC turning equipment. Typical applications include threading shafts, fasteners, fittings, and hydraulic components where UN external thread forms are required.
Designed for use in standard-series 3ER-style laydown threading toolholders. Compatible with workpiece materials spanning multiple material groups: H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering steels, stainless, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, high-temp alloys, and titanium. No additional specific toolholder model numbers were provided in the product data.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician. Ensure the lathe or turning center is fully stopped and locked out before changing inserts. Seat the insert flush in the 3ER toolholder pocket and torque the clamp screw per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the insert seating surface and pocket for chips or debris before securing to maintain accurate thread geometry.
