It carries ANSI insert code TNMG321 and ISO insert code TNMG160304, with a 60-degree triangular shape and a negative side clearance that suits a wide range of general-purpose turning applications. The insert is CVD-coated with TiC and TiN layers under manufacturer grade TCN55, which provides wear resistance and thermal stability at elevated cutting speeds. With an inscribed circle of 0.3752 inches and a corner radius of 0.0157 inches, this insert suits medium-to-finish turning passes where controlled chip formation matters.
This insert is appropriate for turning steel and stainless steel workpieces, corresponding to primary workpiece material codes P and M. The TCN55 grade with C5, C6, and C7 material grades covers a broad range of ferrous materials in both roughing and semi-finishing contexts. The G-style chip breaker aids in chip control during continuous cutting passes. It is used in production machining environments by machinists and CNC operators running lathe or turning center programs where insert consistency across a batch is critical. The insert is sold individually but must be ordered in multiples of 10.
Designed for TNMG-style turning toolholders that accept a triangular insert with a 0.1500-inch hole diameter, negative clearance, and M-tolerance fit. Suitable for toolholders rated for ANSI size code 321 or ISO size code 160304 inserts using clamp or pin retention.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed with the spindle off and the machine in a locked-out, de-energized state per applicable lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert fully in the pocket before torquing the clamping screw or engaging the pin to manufacturer toolholder specifications. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before installation, as contamination can cause insert rocking and premature edge failure. Worn or chipped inserts should be indexed or replaced before resuming cuts.
