The VALUE COLLECTION TCN21005K is a solid carbide turning insert designed for use on CNC and manual lathes in general turning operations. Manufactured to ANSI code TPGH21.50 and ISO code TPGH110202, this triangular insert features a TiN (titanium nitride) coating over a C5-grade carbide substrate, delivering improved wear resistance and surface finish consistency on ferrous workpiece materials. The inscribed circle measures 0.2500 inches (6.35 mm), insert thickness is 0.0938 inches, and the corner radius is 0.0040 inches. The positive side clearance geometry reduces cutting forces and is well-suited for finishing and light turning passes. Installation uses a screw-holding method for secure, repeatable indexing.
This insert is intended for turning centers and engine lathes performing finishing to semi-finishing cuts on steel and stainless steel workpieces, as identified by primary workpiece material codes M and P. The TPGH insert style with positive clearance is commonly applied where edge sharpness and clean chip evacuation are required, such as in close-tolerance diameter turning, shoulder work, and light profiling. The H chip breaker designation supports controlled chip formation during these lighter-duty cuts. Machining shops, tool cribs, and maintenance machining departments are the typical end users for this insert style.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for TPGH21.50-style screw-on turning toolholders accepting a triangular insert with a 0.1100 inch hole diameter and positive clearance geometry. Suitable for toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO TPGH insert pocket standards.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque range; do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under excessive clamp force. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a fresh insert to ensure accurate positioning and prevent premature edge failure.
