The VALUE COLLECTION TCN18540H is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Carrying the SPG322 ANSI insert code and ISO designation SPG090308, this insert features a titanium nitride (TiN) coating over a carbide substrate rated at material grade C5. The square insert shape (S) with a 90-degree included angle and an 11-degree relief angle provides a positive side clearance geometry suited to general-purpose turning. The 3/8-inch inscribed circle and 1/8-inch insert thickness deliver a durable cutting edge with a 1/32-inch corner radius for controlled chip formation on a range of workpiece materials.
This insert is intended for turning operations on ferrous and stainless workpiece materials, consistent with primary workpiece material codes M and P. It is sold individually per package and is typically used in SPG-style toolholders with a clamp-type insert holding method. The flat-top chip breaker geometry makes it well suited to finishing and semi-finishing passes where chip control and surface finish quality are priorities in a production machining environment.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for SPG-style turning toolholders accepting a 322 ANSI size code insert with clamp-type holding and a square insert seat.
Installation of turning inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and the machine locked out per applicable shop safety procedures. Use the correct torque wrench and clamp screw for the toolholder manufacturer's specified clamping torque to avoid insert rocking or clamp damage. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for debris or wear before seating a new insert. Never run a chipped or fractured insert, as carbide failure at speed presents a serious hazard.
