The VALUE COLLECTION TCI40870500 is a structural tension control bolt designed for high-strength steel-to-steel connections in construction and fabrication applications. Manufactured to ASTM A490 and ASTM F2280 standards, this bolt uses a splined end that shears off at a predetermined torque, confirming proper pretension without the need for a torque wrench or turn-of-nut verification. The 7/8-9 UNC thread and 5-inch length under head make it suited for moderate-to-heavy structural assemblies. Each unit ships with a mating nut and washer. The assembly is bright and uncoated, appropriate for applications where field painting or galvanizing will follow installation.
Tension control bolts are used in structural steel framing for commercial and industrial construction projects. Typical applications include beam-to-column connections, moment frames, and braced-frame assemblies where AISC or RCSC bolt specifications require pretensioned installation. The 7/8-9 thread size is one of the most common diameters in structural steel work. This bolt is installed by ironworkers and structural steel erectors. The package includes 5 complete assemblies, each consisting of a bolt, nut, and washer.
Designed as a high-strength structural replacement for 7/8-9 UNC tension control bolt assemblies meeting ASTM A490 and ASTM F2280 fastener standards in structural steel connections.
Installation is performed by qualified ironworkers or structural steel erectors in accordance with AISC and RCSC Specification for Structural Joints requirements. A tension control bolt gun with the appropriate 7/8-inch socket and inner spline socket is required to drive the bolt and shear the splined end. Do not reuse tension control bolt assemblies once the splined end has sheared. Verify that faying surfaces and hole alignment comply with project structural drawings before fastening.
