The VALUE COLLECTION SS5X08040-025BX is an M8 x 1.25 x 40 mm dog point set screw manufactured from Grade 18-8 austenitic stainless steel (Grade A2). The dog point tip extends beyond the threaded body to engage a mating hole or slot, providing positive axial location and preventing rotational slippage of collars, hubs, and shafts. Drive is a 4 mm internal hex (Allen). The plain finish leaves the stainless surface uncoated, relying on the alloy's inherent corrosion resistance. This fastener conforms to DIN 915, the metric standard for dog point set screws. Installers in HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical assembly applications use this type of screw where frequent adjustment or disassembly is required.
This set screw is suited for metric threaded assemblies requiring a dog point interface. Typical applications include shaft collars, shaft couplings, pulley and sprocket retention, and mechanical stops on rotating or sliding components. The M8 x 1.25 thread size is a standard metric coarse pitch widely used in light-to-medium industrial and trade equipment. The 40 mm overall length provides sufficient engagement for deeper hub or collar bores. Grade A2 stainless construction makes it appropriate for environments where mild corrosion resistance is needed, such as HVAC equipment rooms, pool mechanical areas, and outdoor enclosures.
Designed for use in any metric M8 x 1.25 threaded bore requiring a dog point set screw per DIN 915. Suitable for shaft collars, hubs, couplings, and similar components with a corresponding dog point recess.
Installation should be performed by a qualified mechanic or technician familiar with metric fastener torque practices. Ensure the mating shaft or component has a properly sized dog point recess before tightening. Use a calibrated 4 mm hex key; avoid oversized or worn keys that can round the drive socket. Degrease the thread and seating surfaces before installation when a precise clamping load is required, and confirm the assembly is de-energized or at rest before adjusting any set screws on rotating equipment.
