The VALUE COLLECTION SM2300100 is a spiral shell reamer designed for precision hole finishing in metalworking and machining applications. Built from high-speed steel, this tool delivers consistent bore sizing and smooth surface finishes in drilled holes. It measures 1 inch in diameter with a 2-1/2 inch overall length, making it suited for bench or machine reaming on medium-scale workpieces. The spiral flute geometry promotes clean chip evacuation during cutting, while the right-hand cutting direction pairs with standard spindle rotation. A 1/2 inch center hole accommodates Number 5 arbor mounting for secure setup in arbor press or machine tool applications.
This shell reamer is used in machine shops, maintenance facilities, and toolroom environments where bore accuracy is critical. It is appropriate for reaming operations on steel, cast iron, aluminum, and similar machinable materials. The shell reamer design — mounted on an arbor rather than held by a shank — allows for greater diameter capacity in a lighter, more economical tool body. Machinists and toolroom technicians handling production or repair work will find this reamer suited to close-tolerance through-hole and blind-hole finishing tasks where a solid reamer of equivalent diameter would be impractical.
Designed for use with Number 5 arbors. Fits standard shell reamer arbors with a 1/2 inch pilot diameter. Verify arbor taper and pilot fit before installation.
Shell reamers are installed by machinists using a compatible arbor mounted in a milling machine, drill press, or lathe tailstock. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the arbor is properly seated and secured before beginning the operation. Apply cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material to extend tool life and maintain surface finish quality. Follow shop safety practices and applicable OSHA machining guidelines when operating rotary cutting tools.
