The VALUE COLLECTION SM0407140 is a straight-flute chucking reamer designed to bring finish-bored or drilled holes to a precise final diameter. Machined from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, it delivers consistent material removal in a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in a drill chuck or collet, and the right-hand cutting geometry is standard for conventional lathe or drill-press reaming operations. At 0.7140 inches in diameter with a diameter tolerance of +0.0002 to -0.0000 inches, this tool holds close tolerances required for precision fit applications.
This reamer is suited for machine shop, toolroom, and maintenance environments where hole quality and dimensional accuracy are critical. The 2.25-inch flute length accommodates typical through-hole and moderate blind-hole depths, while the 9-inch overall length provides clearance for fixture-mounted workpieces. It is installed by machinists and toolroom operators on drill presses, lathes, and milling machines using standard chucking setups.
Designed as a general-purpose chucking reamer for use in drill presses, engine lathes, and milling machines equipped with a drill chuck or collet capable of accepting a straight-cylindrical shank in the 0.7140 inch diameter range.
A licensed machinist or toolroom technician should verify spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the workpiece material before use — excessive speed or feed can cause bell-mouthing or premature tool wear. Ensure the workpiece is rigidly fixtured and the reamer is running true in the chuck before engaging the cut. The hole should be pre-drilled or bored to leave only the recommended finishing stock before reaming; attempting to remove excess material in a single reaming pass can damage the cutting edges. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve surface finish.
