The VALUE COLLECTION SM0405400 is a straight-flute chucking reamer designed to finish-size drilled or bored holes to a precise 0.5400-inch diameter. Made from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this reamer delivers consistent dimensional accuracy in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks or collet holders. With an overall length of 8 inches and a 2-inch flute length, it provides adequate reach for most machine-tool setups. Right-hand cutting direction suits conventional spindle rotation. This tool is typically used by machinists and tool-room technicians on drill presses, lathes, and milling machines.
This chucking reamer is suited for production and maintenance machining operations where hole tolerances demand a finishing pass beyond what a twist drill alone can achieve. It is appropriate for use in light-duty CNC machining centers, manual knee mills, and bench drill presses. Typical applications include reaming bearing bores, bushing seats, and dowel-pin holes in steel, aluminum, brass, and cast iron. The bright HSS construction performs well at moderate cutting speeds with appropriate cutting fluid.
Designed as a general-purpose chucking reamer for use in machine tools that accept a straight-cylindrical shank, including drill presses, lathes, and milling machines with compatible chuck or collet systems.
A licensed machinist or qualified tool operator should set this reamer using a rigid setup to minimize runout before engaging the workpiece. Always apply an appropriate cutting fluid for the material being reamed to extend tool life and improve finish quality. Never force the reamer into an undersized hole; the pre-drilled or bored hole should be within accepted stock allowance for the final diameter. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped before measuring or repositioning the workpiece.
