The VALUE COLLECTION SC0850140 is a high-speed steel Morse taper core drill designed for large-diameter hole cutting in metal fabrication, maintenance, and industrial drilling applications. The 1-5/8 inch (1.6250 inch decimal) cutting diameter is paired with a 5MT shank taper for rigid, positive seating in compatible drill press spindles and boring machines. The 4-flute design improves chip evacuation and surface finish compared to standard 2-flute core drills. At 17 inches overall length, this tool reaches deep workpieces or through thick material where shorter drills cannot. An oxide coating reduces friction and provides basic corrosion resistance during storage and use.
This core drill is suited to metalworking shops, pipefitters, millwrights, and maintenance machinists who require clean, accurately sized holes without a pilot drill. Core drills are commonly used to enlarge existing holes or clean up rough-punched openings to a precise finished diameter. The 5MT shank seats directly into drill press spindles or milling machine quills equipped with a No. 5 Morse taper socket. Right-hand spiral and right-hand cutting direction are standard for conventional drilling with typical drill press or boring mill setups.
Designed for use in drill presses, boring mills, or milling machines fitted with a No. 5 Morse taper spindle socket. Suitable for enlarging or finishing existing holes in steel and other ferrous metals where a No. 5 Morse taper drive is available.
Installation and operation should be performed by qualified machinists or metalworking tradespeople familiar with drill press and boring machine operation. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and power is locked out before inserting or removing the taper shank. Seat the 5MT shank fully into the spindle socket using a draw bar or drift where required to prevent slippage under load. Core drills require a pre-existing pilot hole or punched opening and are not intended for drilling into solid stock from a flat surface.
