The VALUE COLLECTION R-34820-5/16 is a heavy hex lock nut with a nylon insert, designed to resist loosening under vibration and dynamic loads. It is sized for 5/16-18 UNC threads and manufactured from Grade 2 steel with an uncoated finish. The nylon insert creates an interference fit against the mating thread, providing reliable prevailing-torque locking without the need for adhesives or additional hardware. At 7/16 inches in height and 9/16 inches across the flats, this nut suits standard hex tooling. Electricians, HVAC technicians, plumbers, and general mechanical contractors use nylon insert lock nuts across a wide range of panel, bracket, and equipment-mounting applications.
This lock nut is suited for light-duty to medium-duty fastening applications in both residential and commercial settings. It is commonly used when securing equipment panels, mounting brackets, conduit supports, duct hangers, pump assemblies, and similar hardware where vibration could work a standard nut loose over time. The UNC thread form is the most widely encountered inch-standard thread in North American mechanical and trade work. The uncoated finish is appropriate for dry or protected interior installations.
Designed as a standard replacement or stocking nut for any application using 5/16-18 UNC inch-series threaded fasteners.
Installation is performed by hand-threading the nut onto a 5/16-18 UNC bolt or stud, then driving to the required torque with a standard hex wrench or socket driver. Nylon insert lock nuts are single-use by design; once the insert has been driven past its locking point, the prevailing-torque resistance is reduced and the nut should not be reused in critical applications. Ensure the mating thread is clean and free of debris before installation. Always de-energize or shut off associated equipment before performing any fastening work on live electrical panels or pressurized mechanical systems.
