The VALUE COLLECTION O1D#36 is an O-1 oil hardening tool steel drill rod measuring 0.212 inches in diameter and 36 inches in length. O-1 tool steel is a general-purpose oil-hardening grade known for its dimensional stability during heat treatment and good machinability in the annealed state. This drill rod stock is used by machinists, tool and die makers, and fabricators to produce punches, dies, drill blanks, gauges, and precision shafts. At 0.363 pounds, the rod is easy to handle and cut to length on a bandsaw or cold saw before further machining or heat treating operations.
This drill rod is suited for job shop, toolroom, and light manufacturing environments where close-tolerance round stock is required. It is commonly used in applications where the finished part will be oil-quenched and tempered to achieve hardness. Typical uses include custom tooling, fixture components, and replacement shafts in both prototype and production settings. The 36-inch length provides sufficient stock for multiple smaller parts from a single piece.
Designed as a general-purpose O-1 oil hardening tool steel drill rod for toolroom and machine shop applications requiring 0.212-inch diameter round stock.
Cut to length using a bandsaw, cold saw, or abrasive cutoff wheel rated for tool steel. Machining should be performed in the annealed state before heat treating. Oil quenching and tempering should follow accepted toolroom practices and applicable shop safety protocols. Always wear appropriate PPE when cutting, grinding, or heat treating tool steel stock.
