The VALUE COLLECTION MSC-04919106 is a straight flute tap designed for cutting 1-8 UNC internal threads in a left-hand direction. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this tap delivers consistent thread quality in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The taper chamfer distributes cutting forces gradually across the lead threads, reducing the chance of tap breakage on entry. With a 2.5-inch thread length and a 5.125-inch overall length, it provides ample reach for deeper through-hole and blind-hole applications where left-hand thread profiles are required. A 4-flute design provides rigidity and chip control appropriate for the 1-inch major diameter.
This tap is suited for machine shop, maintenance, and manufacturing environments where left-hand threaded fastener applications are specified. The H4 thread limit and 3B class of fit make it appropriate for standard commercial-tolerance internal thread production. Typical applications include threading large-diameter holes in fixtures, tooling, and structural components where left-hand threads are specified to resist loosening under rotational loads. Installation is performed by machinists and toolmakers using conventional or CNC tapping equipment.
Designed as a standard replacement or production tap for 1-8 UNC left-hand internal thread applications in machine shop, maintenance, and manufacturing settings. Verify spindle direction and tapping head capability for left-hand operation before use.
Left-hand taps require a spindle or tapping head configured for reverse (counterclockwise) rotation when viewed from above — confirm equipment compatibility before setup. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tap life and improve thread finish. Secure the workpiece firmly and align the tap perpendicular to the hole before engagement. A licensed machinist or qualified toolmaker should perform setup and operation in accordance with applicable shop safety procedures.
