The VALUE COLLECTION MSC-04916128 is a straight flute bottoming tap designed to cut internal left-hand threads in a 5/8-11 UNC profile. Built from high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this tap is suited for threading operations where a standard spiral-flute tap is not required and chip evacuation can be managed by the operator. With 4 flutes and an H3 thread limit, it holds tight dimensional tolerances for a 3B class of fit. The 1-13/16-inch thread length and 3-13/16-inch overall length make it appropriate for through-holes and shallow blind holes where full thread depth near the bottom of the hole is the goal. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users.
This tap is intended for use in manual tapping operations or rigid tapping setups on machine tools where left-hand thread production is required. The bottoming chamfer — typically 1 to 2 thread leads — allows threads to be cut to within a few threads of the bottom of a blind hole. It is well suited for ferrous and non-ferrous materials in general machining environments. The bright, uncoated finish makes it a cost-effective choice for lower-volume production runs or toolroom use where coated tooling is not warranted.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard toolroom tap for any machining application requiring a 5/8-11 UNC left-hand bottoming tap with a 3B class of fit and H3 thread limit.
This tap is installed and used by machinists and toolroom professionals following standard tapping procedures. Before tapping, ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the correct drill size for a 5/8-11 UNC thread has been used to prepare the hole. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve thread finish. Left-hand taps require counterclockwise rotation to advance — confirm machine or tap wrench direction before starting to avoid tool breakage.
