The VALUE COLLECTION MSC-04619680 is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting 5/8-11 UNC internal threads in a wide range of workpiece materials. Built from high-speed steel with a bright/uncoated finish, this tap features a 45-degree helix angle and a fast flute style that evacuates chips upward out of the hole during through-hole and blind-hole tapping operations. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading closer to the bottom of a blind hole than a standard plug tap. With 4 flutes and an H3 thread limit, this tap holds tight tolerances consistent with a 3B class of fit, making it suitable for precision threading work in machine shops and fabrication environments.
This tap is intended for use in machining operations where a 5/8-11 UNC thread form is required. The spiral flute geometry makes it well-suited for softer materials such as aluminum, mild steel, and plastics where chip flow out of the hole is a priority. The modified bottoming chamfer makes it a practical choice when thread depth must reach close to the bottom of a blind hole. It is typically run in CNC machining centers, turret lathes, or manual drill presses equipped with a tapping head. The right-hand thread direction and right-hand flute direction match standard spindle rotation.
Designed as a standard replacement or production tap for any application requiring a 5/8-11 UNC right-hand internal thread with a 3B fit tolerance.
This tap should be installed and operated by a qualified machinist familiar with tapping speeds, cutting fluid selection, and feed rates for the workpiece material. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before changing taps in any holder or chuck. Use an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for the material being threaded — running a high-speed steel tap dry in steel can reduce tool life significantly. Always align the tap concentrically with the drilled pilot hole to avoid tap breakage and thread distortion.
