The VALUE COLLECTION MSC-04541249 is a spiral point tap designed to cut internal threads in through-hole applications. It features a 5/16-24 UNF thread form with a plug chamfer, which distributes cutting load across the leading threads and suits most standard through-hole tapping jobs. The tap is manufactured from high speed steel (HSS) and carries a bright, uncoated finish. With a 2-flute design and a right-hand thread direction, it pushes chips forward ahead of the tap rather than packing them in the flute, reducing the risk of chip clogging in machine tapping operations. The H3 thread limit designates a ground tolerance suitable for 3B class of fit applications.
This tap is used in machine shop, maintenance, and fabrication environments where 5/16-24 UNF threads are required in through-holes. The spiral point geometry makes it well suited for CNC tapping centers, drill presses, and tapping attachments where chip evacuation ahead of the tool is advantageous. It is appropriate for use in softer metals, steel, and similar machinable materials. Machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians working to UNF thread standards will find this tap fits standard through-hole tapping workflows without special toolholding requirements.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard tooling option for applications requiring 5/16-24 UNF right-hand internal threads in through-hole configurations to a 3B class of fit.
This tap should be installed in a compatible tap holder, tapping head, or drill chuck rated for the shank size before use. Always apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material and ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured before tapping. Confirm spindle rotation direction and speed are set correctly for the machine and material prior to engaging the tap. Do not attempt to back the tap out while it is still engaged under cutting load without first neutralizing spindle rotation.
