The VALUE COLLECTION MSC-04475182 is a straight flute plug tap designed for cutting internal threads in through holes and blind holes where chip evacuation is managed manually. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this tap handles 9/16-18 UNF right-hand threads and is rated to an H3 thread limit tolerance. It features 4 flutes and a plug chamfer, making it the standard go-to tap for general-purpose threading in production and maintenance environments. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance technicians use this tap in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-tapping applications on ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
This tap is suited for threading operations in manufacturing, MRO (maintenance, repair, and operations), and fabrication shops. The 9/16-18 UNF thread form is a fine-pitch unified thread commonly found in automotive, hydraulic, and precision mechanical assemblies where higher thread engagement and finer adjustment are required. The plug chamfer style, with its moderate lead-in, works well for both through-hole and deep blind-hole applications where a taper start is not needed and a bottoming tap is not yet required.
Designed as a standard replacement or stock tap for any application requiring a 9/16-18 UNF straight flute plug tap in high-speed steel with an H3 thread limit.
This tap should be installed in a tap holder, tapping head, or rigid machine spindle appropriate for the shank diameter before use. Always ensure the workpiece is secured and the pilot hole is drilled to the correct tap drill size for 9/16-18 UNF before beginning the threading operation. Apply cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve thread quality. Do not exceed the recommended feed rate for the material being tapped, and back off periodically to break chips when hand-tapping.
