The VALUE COLLECTION MSC-04438255 is a straight flute bottoming tap designed to cut internal threads in pre-drilled holes where full thread depth close to the bottom of a blind hole is required. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this tap produces 10-24 UNC right-hand threads and is suited for general-purpose threading in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It features 4 flutes for efficient chip clearance and an H3 thread limit for reliable 2B and 3B class-of-fit tolerances. The overall length is 2-3/8 inches with a thread length of 7/8 inches. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and toolroom professionals use this tap for hand tapping or machine tapping operations.
This tap is appropriate for threading operations in light manufacturing, maintenance and repair, and general metalworking environments. The bottoming chamfer — typically 1 to 2 threads of lead — allows threading to within one or two pitches of a blind hole bottom, making it the right choice when a plug or taper tap has already started the thread and full depth is needed. It handles both 2B commercial-grade and 3B precision-grade fit requirements, giving shops flexibility across a range of tolerance requirements for 10-24 UNC fastener applications.
Designed for use in standard 10-24 UNC tapping applications requiring a bottoming chamfer and an H3 thread limit with 2B or 3B class-of-fit tolerances in ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces.
Use in a properly aligned tap wrench or tapping fixture to prevent tap breakage and thread misalignment. Apply a suitable cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tap life and improve thread finish. Ensure the pilot hole diameter matches the recommended drill size for 10-24 UNC before tapping. Always back off periodically when hand tapping to break chips, and never force a tap against the bottom of a blind hole without confirming available thread depth.
