The VALUE COLLECTION MSC-04437323 is a straight flute tap designed for cutting 8-32 UNC internal threads in through-holes and shallow blind holes. Built from high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, it delivers reliable thread-cutting performance in ferrous and non-ferrous metals as well as plastics. The plug chamfer — ground on the first 3 to 5 threads — provides a balance of cutting ease and thread engagement, making it suitable for both hand tapping and machine tapping applications. With an overall length of 2.125 inches and a thread length of 0.75 inches, this tap is sized for standard toolholders used in jobbing and maintenance environments. The H3 thread limit ensures consistent fit with 2B class-of-fit tolerance requirements.
This tap is used wherever a No. 8-32 UNC threaded hole is required: general fabrication shops, maintenance and repair operations, electrical panel assembly, and light machine building. The right-hand thread configuration is standard for the vast majority of fastener applications. The 4-flute design provides good chip control in materials that produce short, breakable chips. It is appropriate for use in drill presses, CNC tapping centers, and manual tap handles when proper alignment and feed rate are maintained.
Designed as a standard replacement or stock tap for any application requiring 8-32 UNC, 2B class-of-fit, H3 limit threads in hand tapping or machine tapping setups using straight flute tooling.
This tap is installed by machinists, toolmakers, and maintenance technicians using a tap handle, tapping head, or CNC machine toolholder. Always apply an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping oil to extend tool life and improve thread quality. Align the tap perpendicular to the workpiece surface before starting the thread to prevent tap breakage or cross-threading. Do not force the tap — back off periodically during hand tapping to break chips and clear the flutes.
