The VALUE COLLECTION KP86165 is a 5/8-11 UNC hex nut machined from Grade 8 steel and finished with a zinc yellow dichromate coating. Grade 8 steel delivers high tensile strength suited for demanding fastening applications where standard hardware-grade nuts are inadequate. The zinc yellow dichromate finish provides corrosion resistance and is the standard identifier for Grade 8 fasteners in the field. At 15/16 inches across the flats and 35/64 inches in height, this nut is dimensioned to ASME standards for 5/8-11 UNC fasteners. Right-hand thread direction is standard. This nut is sold in a package quantity of 25.
This hex nut is used across a wide range of mechanical, structural, and equipment assembly applications. It is commonly specified in HVAC equipment mounting, electrical panel and equipment framing, general mechanical assemblies, and anywhere a high-strength UNC fastener is required. Grade 8 rated hardware is frequently called out in equipment installation instructions where standard zinc-plated nuts are not acceptable. The 5/8-11 thread size is one of the most common heavy-fastener sizes in trade work, fitting standard 5/8-inch Grade 8 bolts and threaded rod.
Designed for use with 5/8-11 UNC Grade 8 bolts and threaded rod in standard coarse-thread fastener applications.
Installation is performed by qualified mechanics, millwrights, pipefitters, or tradespeople following applicable mechanical and structural codes. Always verify that the mating bolt or threaded rod is also rated Grade 8 or higher when the application requires Grade 8 fastener strength — mixing grades undermines the assembly rating. Use a calibrated torque wrench and follow the torque specifications listed in the equipment or structural drawings for the specific application. Inspect threads for damage before installation and do not use damaged or cross-threaded hardware.
