The VALUE COLLECTION JY79772695 is a straight-flute British Standard Pipe Tap designed to cut 1/4-19 BSPT internal threads in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this tap delivers consistent thread form in pipe fittings, manifolds, and hydraulic ports that require BSPT tapered threads. The bottoming chamfer allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole or into shallow port depths where plug or taper chamfer taps cannot reach. Four flutes provide adequate chip clearance for most standard pipe tap applications. Overall length is 2-7/16 inches with a shank diameter of 0.7874 inches, making it compatible with standard tap holders and driver chucks used in manual and machine tapping operations.
This tap is suited for machinists, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians working on plumbing assemblies, pneumatic fittings, hydraulic components, and instrumentation ports that call for BSPT tapered thread standards common in British and international metric-based systems. It is appropriate for use in both manual hand-tapping and light machine-tapping setups. Right-hand thread direction is standard. No coolant-through feature is present, so conventional cutting fluid applied externally is standard practice for this tool.
Designed as a direct-use tap for cutting 1/4-19 BSPT internal tapered threads per British Standard Pipe Taper specifications. Fits standard tap holders accepting a 0.7874-inch shank diameter with a 0.4210-inch square drive.
This tap is installed by a machinist or pipefitter using a calibrated tap wrench or tapping head. The workpiece should be securely fixtured before tapping begins. Apply cutting fluid continuously during tapping to reduce heat buildup and extend tool life. Back the tap out periodically to break and clear chips, and never force a tap against hard resistance, as HSS taps are brittle and susceptible to breakage under lateral load.
