The VALUE COLLECTION JY4884029 is a straight flute tap designed to cut internal threads in through-holes and shallow blind holes where chip clearance is manageable. Built from high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this tap cuts a 2-1/2-8 UNS right-hand thread profile to a thread limit of H6, offering controlled fit tolerance suitable for standard fastener assemblies. The plug chamfer - typically 3 to 5 threads of lead - makes it appropriate for starting in a hole or continuing after a taper tap in a sequential tapping operation. Machinists and maintenance technicians working on large-diameter threading jobs install this tap in manual tap handles or machine setups where torque requirements are managed carefully.
This tap is suited for threading large-diameter holes in ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces in industrial, maintenance, and fabrication environments. The 6-flute configuration provides more cutting edges than a standard 4-flute tap, distributing cutting load across the full thread engagement and improving surface finish in the cut thread. With a 4-inch thread length and an overall length of 8.75 inches, the JY4884029 handles thick stock or deep-reach applications where additional clearance above the workpiece is required.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use tap for applications requiring a 2-1/2-8 UNS straight flute plug tap in high-speed steel. Fits standard large-diameter tap holders and manual tap wrenches sized for this shank class.
This tap should be installed and operated by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician familiar with large-diameter tapping procedures. Always secure the workpiece and use appropriate cutting fluid to reduce friction and heat buildup during the tapping operation. Do not force the tap - back off periodically to break chips and prevent tap breakage, especially in blind or deep holes. Inspect the tap for wear before each use; a worn or dull tap in a large-diameter application can result in damaged threads or a broken tool that is difficult to extract.
