The VALUE COLLECTION JY4877023 is a straight flute tap designed to cut 1-3/4-8 UNS internal threads in a range of workpiece materials. Manufactured from high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this tap delivers consistent thread quality in through-hole and blind-hole applications where chip evacuation is straightforward. The plug chamfer - typically 3 to 5 threads - provides a balance between ease of starting and threading depth, making it well suited for general-purpose production and maintenance tapping. With 6 flutes and an H6 thread limit, this tap holds close tolerances for threaded assemblies that require reliable fit and load-bearing performance.
This tap is intended for use by machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance mechanics working on large-diameter fastener threads in ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics, and similar machinable materials. The 1-3/4-8 UNS designation makes it appropriate for specialty threading work that falls outside standard UNC and UNF series, such as custom fastener repair, heavy equipment components, and industrial machinery maintenance. It is used in both manual tapping operations and machine tapping setups where straight flute geometry is acceptable for the material at hand.
Designed as a straight flute plug tap for cutting 1-3/4-8 UNS right-hand internal threads in workpieces machined on standard tapping machines, drill presses, lathes, or by hand using an appropriately sized tap wrench.
Secure the workpiece firmly before tapping and ensure the correct tap drill size for 1-3/4-8 UNS is used to prepare the hole. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to reduce heat buildup and extend tap life. For machine tapping, verify spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the material and tap diameter. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use - a damaged tap can seize in the workpiece and cause costly rework.
