The VALUE COLLECTION JY4843058 is a 7/16-16 straight flute hand tap designed for cutting internal threads in a variety of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Manufactured from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright uncoated finish, this tap produces right-hand UNS threads to a Class 3B tolerance with an H3 thread limit, making it suitable for applications requiring accurate, close-tolerance thread fits. The plug chamfer style features a 3 to 5 thread lead, allowing it to start easily in through-holes and blind holes with sufficient depth. Overall length is 3-5/32 inches. Licensed machinists, toolroom operators, and maintenance technicians use this tap for hand tapping or low-speed machine tapping operations.
This tap is applied in general machining, maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) environments where 7/16-16 UNS internal threads are required. The UNS thread standard accommodates non-standard thread series applications outside the unified coarse (UNC) and unified fine (UNF) families. The 4-flute straight flute geometry provides good chip control in shorter-chipping materials and delivers full thread form across the engagement length. It is well suited for use in drill presses, tapping arms, and hand tapping fixtures in job shops and industrial maintenance settings.
Designed as a standard hand tap for cutting 7/16-16 UNS right-hand internal threads in workpieces requiring a Class 3B thread fit. Suitable for use with standard tap wrenches, tapping arms, and machine tapping chucks that accept the tap's square drive shank.
Thread cutting should be performed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician familiar with tap geometry and cutting speeds. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the pilot hole is drilled to the correct tap drill diameter for a 7/16-16 thread before starting. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to reduce heat and extend tap life. Back off the tap periodically during hand tapping to break chips and prevent binding or tap breakage.
