The VALUE COLLECTION ICP70505A is a solid carbide turning insert designed for use in CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Manufactured to ANSI code WNMG431 and ISO code WNMG080404, this insert features an 80-degree trigon (W) shape with a negative side clearance and a TiN (titanium nitride) coating applied over a C5 carbide substrate in the TCN55 grade. The inscribed circle measures 0.5 inches and the corner radius is 0.0156 inches (1/64 inch). The G-style chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation during turning operations. This insert is installed by machinists, toolroom operators, and CNC technicians working in production or job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for turning operations on ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials, consistent with primary workpiece material codes M and P, which cover general steel, alloy steel, and stainless steel applications. The TiN coating improves surface hardness and wear resistance, making it appropriate for medium to finish turning passes. The WNMG shape provides three usable cutting edges per insert, offering extended tooling life per unit. Typical applications include shaft turning, facing, and contour turning on CNC lathes equipped with WNMG-style toolholders with clamp and pin holding methods.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for WNMG431-style turning insert seats using clamp and pin holding methods. Compatible with toolholders accepting ANSI WNMG431 or ISO WNMG080404 insert geometry. Primary workpiece material codes M and P indicate suitability for steel, alloy steel, and stainless steel turning applications.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to loosen the clamp and pin securing the insert, then seat the new insert fully against the pocket walls before re-torquing the clamp fastener. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before installation to ensure proper seating and prevent premature edge failure.
