Product Description

The VALUE COLLECTION ICP62120L is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and manual turning centers. Manufactured to ANSI insert code VBMT331 and ISO code VBMT160404, this insert features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape that concentrates cutting force along a narrow included angle for detailed profiling and finishing passes. The Al2O3 (aluminum oxide) ceramic coating improves wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted cuts. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 1/16-inch insert thickness of 0.1875 inches, it is sized for medium light-duty turning applications. Installation is via screw-clamp toolholders compatible with VBMT-style pockets.

This insert is suited for turning operations on non-ferrous metals and non-metallic materials, consistent with its primary workpiece material codes K and N. The 35-degree point angle makes it well-suited for contour turning, chamfering, and finishing cuts where a sharp, narrow geometry is required. The positive side clearance (B clearance code, M tolerance) reduces cutting forces and heat buildup, making it a practical choice for light depths of cut on aluminum, plastics, and similar materials. Machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments will find this insert appropriate for finish-pass work where tight tolerances are required.

Key Features

  • Solid carbide substrate with Al2O3 coating for wear and thermal resistance
  • 35-degree diamond (V-shape) insert geometry for contour turning and profiling
  • Inscribed circle of 3/8 inches (0.375 inches) for medium light-duty toolholders
  • Corner radius of 1/64 inch (0.0156 inches) for fine finishing and sharp-radius workpieces
  • Positive side clearance with screw-clamp holding for secure seating and easy indexing
  • Chip breaker style T for controlled chip formation during finishing passes

Compatibility

Designed to fit VBMT-style screw-clamp toolholders accepting a 0.1730-inch hole diameter and a 331 ANSI size code insert pocket. Verify toolholder compatibility with ANSI code VBMT331 or ISO code VBMT160404 before installation.

Installation Notes

Insert installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine powered down and spindle locked before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure when seating the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination can cause improper seating and premature failure. Confirm the chip breaker orientation matches the intended cutting direction before resuming operation.
