The VALUE COLLECTION C2200405 is a Woodruff keyseat cutter designed for milling semicircular keyseats into shafts. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers increased heat and wear resistance compared to standard HSS tooling, making it well suited for harder workpiece materials and higher-speed applications. The cutter measures 0.625 inches in diameter with a 0.125-inch cutting width and mounts on a 0.5-inch shank. The staggered tooth configuration reduces cutting forces and improves chip evacuation, producing cleaner keyseat walls with less chatter. At 2.125 inches overall length and 8 teeth, this cutter conforms to ANSI Standard 405 (Old Standard 5). Supplied individually, bright and uncoated.
This cutter is used in machine shops, toolrooms, and maintenance departments where keyed shaft assemblies are fabricated or repaired. Typical applications include milling Woodruff keyseats in steel, stainless, aluminum, and alloy shafts for gearboxes, motors, and power transmission components. The 0.625-inch diameter and 0.125-inch width suit smaller shaft diameters where ANSI 405 keyseat geometry is specified. Installation is performed on a horizontal or vertical milling machine by a machinist or tool-and-die professional. The 0.5-inch shank accepts standard milling machine arbors and collet chucks.
Designed as an ANSI 405 standard Woodruff keyseat cutter compatible with horizontal and vertical milling machines accepting a 0.5-inch shank. Conforms to Old Standard Number 5 keyseat geometry.
This cutter is installed and operated by a qualified machinist on a milling machine. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the power is locked out before mounting or removing the cutter. Secure the shank firmly in a collet chuck or arbor to the manufacturer torque specification of the clamping device before beginning a cut. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material to extend tool life and maintain dimensional accuracy.
