The VALUE COLLECTION C1200404 is a Woodruff keyseat cutter designed for milling the semicircular keyseats found in shafts and bores. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, it delivers consistent performance in general machining applications. The cutter has a 0.5-inch cutting diameter and a 0.125-inch cutting width, making it well-suited for producing standard Woodruff key slots. Its staggered-tooth configuration reduces cutting forces and helps minimize chatter during the cut. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals install this cutter on horizontal or vertical milling machines to produce precise keyseat profiles in steel, aluminum, and similar machinable materials.
This cutter conforms to ANSI standard number 404, also referenced as Old Standard Number 3, ensuring dimensional interchangeability with other tooling and workpieces built to that specification. It is used in job shops, maintenance facilities, and production machining environments wherever Woodruff keyseats are required in shaft assemblies. The 0.5-inch shank diameter mounts directly into standard milling arbors or collet chucks that accept that bore size. The overall length of 2.125 inches keeps the tool compact for clearance in typical milling setups.
Designed as an ANSI 404 compliant Woodruff keyseat cutter for use on horizontal and vertical milling machines accepting a 0.5-inch shank diameter arbor or collet.
Installation and operation should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with milling machine setup and safe tooling practices. Secure the shank fully in the arbor or collet chuck and verify runout before beginning the cut. Always use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material and operate within the spindle speed range recommended for HSS tooling at the given cutter diameter. Inspect the cutter for chipped or worn teeth before each use and do not exceed the rated cutting width.
