The VALUE COLLECTION BD-39865 is a hex split bolt connector designed for joining and tapping electrical conductors in wire splicing and branch circuit applications. Constructed from silicon bronze with a copper alloy connector body, this fitting accommodates 8 AWG solid or 8 AWG stranded wire down to 2 AWG stranded wire. The hex head profile allows for secure torquing with standard wrenches, ensuring consistent clamping force across the conductor contact surfaces. It is compatible with both aluminum and copper wire, making it suitable for mixed-metal splicing scenarios commonly encountered in residential and light commercial electrical work. Licensed electricians and apprentices performing panel work, service entry connections, or conductor splices are the primary installers.
This split bolt connector is used in conduit, junction box, and service entrance applications where conductors must be joined or tapped without soldering. Its aluminum-copper compatibility addresses the requirements of installations that mix conductor materials, reducing the need for separate fittings. The UL Listed rating confirms it meets recognized safety standards for electrical connectors used in North American wiring systems. Each package contains 10 connectors, making it practical for multi-circuit jobs or stocking in a service van.
Designed for use with 8 AWG solid, 8 AWG stranded, and 2 AWG stranded aluminum or copper conductors. Compatible with both aluminum and copper wire types as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and all applicable local codes. De-energize and lock out the circuit before making any conductor connections. Use an appropriately sized wrench on the hex head to achieve a secure, uniform clamp without over-stressing the fitting. When joining aluminum conductors, follow NEC guidelines for antioxidant compound application where required by local authority having jurisdiction.
