Manufactured from chlorinated polyvinyl chloride, this nipple measures 4 inches in nominal pipe size and 4 inches in length. The gray coloring is standard for Schedule 80 CPVC fittings. Its heavier wall thickness compared to Schedule 40 makes it suitable for higher-pressure applications. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this type of nipple when connecting threaded fittings, valves, or equipment in chemical, hot-water, or corrosive-fluid service lines where metal pipe is not preferred.
