The VALUE COLLECTION 872267PS is a hex socket cap screw designed for fastening applications that require a compact, high-torque drive in tight clearance areas. Manufactured from alloy steel with a zinc-plated finish, this cap screw measures 2.5 inches in length under the head and uses a 5/16-inch hex drive. The 3/8-16 UNC thread is partially threaded, making it suited for clamping and pull-down applications where thread engagement needs to be controlled. Machinists, millwrights, fabricators, and maintenance technicians install this type of fastener in machine assemblies, fixtures, and equipment frames.
This cap screw is commonly used in industrial and commercial assembly environments where a socket drive is preferred over external hex fasteners. The partially threaded shank provides a bearing surface that helps align mating components before full clamping load is applied. The zinc coating offers a baseline level of corrosion resistance for use in dry to mildly humid indoor service conditions. Typical applications include machine guarding, fixture building, conveyor frames, and general mechanical assembly work where 3/8-16 UNC thread is specified.
Designed as an OEM-style and general-use replacement socket cap screw for applications specifying 3/8-16 UNC partially threaded alloy steel hex socket fasteners per ASME B18.8 and ASTM A574.
Installation requires a 5/16-inch hex key or Allen-type socket driver. Ensure the mating tapped hole is clean, free of debris, and cut to the correct 3/8-16 UNC thread specification before assembly. Apply appropriate thread lubricant or thread-locking compound per the equipment manufacturer's guidance. Never use an extension or cheater bar on the hex key beyond what is appropriate for the fastener grade, as over-torquing alloy steel socket cap screws can cause thread stripping or fastener failure.
