The VALUE COLLECTION 839-073 is a Schedule 80 PVC reducer bushing designed to transition from a 1/2-inch male iron pipe thread (MIPT) to a 3/8-inch female iron pipe thread (FIPT). Schedule 80 PVC wall thickness provides greater pressure resistance than Schedule 40, making this bushing suitable for demanding low-pressure fluid and chemical handling systems. The fitting is molded from PVC, which resists corrosion and is compatible with a wide range of non-petroleum fluids. Plumbers and pipefitters install this type of bushing when reducing pipe size within a threaded PVC system.
This reducer bushing is used in residential and light commercial plumbing, irrigation, chemical distribution, and pool or spa plumbing systems where a threaded size reduction is required. The MIPT outer thread seats into a female-threaded fitting or valve body, while the FIPT inner thread accepts a 3/8-inch male-threaded pipe or fitting. Typical applications include branch line reductions, chemical feed systems, and filter or pump manifold assemblies.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for Schedule 80 threaded PVC piping systems using 1/2-inch and 3/8-inch pipe sizes.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or qualified pipefitters working on threaded PVC systems. Shut off and depressurize the line completely before disassembling any threaded connections. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for PVC and the fluid being handled. Do not overtighten PVC threaded fittings, as PVC threads can crack under excessive torque.
